the peaceful routine of the Clifton Mosque in Cincinnati was upended when their spiritual leader, Imam Ayman Soliman, was detained without warning during a regular check-in with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Soliman, an Egyptian-born asylum recipient and former chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, had held protected status in the U.S. since 2018. His sudden detention—based on controversial allegations that he had once associated with a “Tier III” terrorist organization in Egypt—has rattled an already anxious immigrant community.
